You can walk through an old forest and find pieces of lives that have almost disappeared.
A broken fence.
An old foundation.
A cabin slowly being taken back by the trees….
You stop and wonder who was there before you.
Who lived there?
Why did they leave?
What happened to the people who once called that place home?
Usually, there’s no answer…
Just the remains.
What makes the woods different
You hear a branch break somewhere behind you, but you don’t know what caused it.
You find a trail disappearing into the trees, but you don’t know where it leads.
You see something in the distance, but by the time you look again, it’s gone..
Maybe there’s a perfectly normal explanation.
There usually is…
But when you’re standing there alone, you don’t know that.
And your mind has a way of filling in the silence….
The night goes deeper
At night, the woods feel endless…
Your flashlight only shows you a small piece of what’s around you. Everything beyond that disappears into darkness.
You start wondering what’s beyond the light..
Not because you saw anything.
Because you can’t see anything.
Maybe that’s the real reason people are afraid of the woods at night.
It’s not always what might be hiding there.
Sometimes it’s knowing you’ll never be able to see all of it….
